J Morgan Looney- Potter, Owner
Looney Ceramics showcases the work of potter Morgan Looney.
A lifelong believer in the value of making a living with one’s hands, Morgan has worked as an organic farmer, a certified arborist/ tree climber, a timber framer, and most recently a “common arts” instructor at a boys’ boarding school.
After taking a throwing class in North Carolina, Morgan quickly fell in love with the craft and began selling his work to friends and family. A hobby unexpectedly turned into a business which now provides ceramics for art galleries, local businesses, and clients as far away as Japan.
Native to Metro Atlanta, Morgan moved his family to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (with some stops along the way) and started Looney Ceramics to fulfill a dream of maintaining a sustainable, creative working life integrated with the home economy.
Morgan’s style draws heavily from contemporary British ceramic artists as well as from traditional Japanese and Korean ceramics.
When not in the studio, Morgan enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter as well as gardening, chairmaking, and drawing.
